My paintings reflect my enjoyment of the fantastic colors, light, and other splendors found in the natural world. At times, I also like to paint imaginary places which are partly based on things observed in the natural world, but embellished with more freedom of imagination. Of special interest to me is painting en plein air (out of doors). Despite the many additional challenges presented by outdoor painting, I feel somehow very free when outside creating art, either alone or with other painting friends. It feels like “playing hooky” from work, school, or other structured parts of life.
My life as a painter began to develop in my 50’s when the urge to do something visual and artistic became too strong to ignore. I have mostly worked in watercolor, but am beginning to explore other media and forms of expression. Although many say watercolor is the most difficult medium, and perpetuate its reputation as being pale and watery, I enjoy its challenges and find it is possible to achieve considerable depth and vibrancy in the final result… if one is “bold.”
